God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Many of the women we work with at Next Step Ministries have family of origin abuse in their background. Not all but over 90% of the women we work with have experienced childhood sexual abuse. This can set the tone for their perceptions on love, their role in life, their worth and value as women.
The road to recovery is often a road of discovery as they learn who they really are as women and that they have worth and value beyond measure as daughters of the God.
FROM THE DAY PROGRAM
Once a week our ladies attend an Equine Assisted Learning program at Equine Connections.  At Equine Connections our women have the opportunity to work with a horse as their teacher.  This program helps the women grow in their confidence, trust, leadership, and communication.
These skills are transferred to their every day lives empowering them and helping the women in their recovery to change their perceptions of their own worth and value.

Here is what our participants say about Equine Assisted Learning.

"Spending time at Equine Connection with the horses has taught me how to communicate in many different ways through patience."

"I learned to push myself, to trust the process, to allow myself to be in the moment and to trust a horse like Faye, who is really big. She showed me she was safe with me. I learned about my own emotions and it's a healing experience. I leave Equine Connection feeling like I can face what my recovery has for me. I am learning to like horses and I look forward to my next classes."

"I have learned communication skills and I am going (getting) through my fear of horses."

URBAN MISSIONARY OPPORTUNITY
Are you a female? Caring? Love working with others? Have a heart to serve?
No need to raise support! Our Urban Missionary Live- In position might be just right for you or someone you know!

At Next Step Ministry we provide a safe place for women to heal from being sexually exploited. A big part of creating a safe place for our women is our housing. Our Live In is a key part of the team. She creates a secure, warm and inspiring environment. The Live In is a front line missionary-she lives in the house with the women in a supportive and supervisory role.

The position is flexible, the Live In  can still work or go to school and there is free room and board. Please pray with us for one or two women to fill this position. If you are interested go to becky@nextstepministries.ca and give us a shout. Thanks.

THANK YOU - BREAK THE CYCLE FUNDRAISER
On March 16th we had our annual "BREAK THE CYCLE" Fundraiser. It was an evening with two escape rooms, two photo booths and an education gallery. This year we raised funds for our outreach program and our new Community Centre. We were able to raise close to $50,000. The staff and participants want to thank everyone for making the evening a huge success.
See you all at next year's "Break the Cycle" Event
