Volunteer

NSM is beyond grateful for everyone who volunteers with us. Thank you!

There are many ways a person can use their gifts and abilities to help serve women. NSM is beyond grateful for everyone who volunteers with us, and we believe everyone has something to offer. We can only do this work with your help!

Due to confidentiality requirements, opportunities to volunteer directly with the women may be limited.

Direct care volunteer roles include any position that has frontline interaction with the women NSM serves. These roles require attendance at our monthly (online) volunteer training. After meeting with a volunteer lead and obtaining a police check, volunteers can serve in our Stroll or Parlour Outreach Teams, at our Sparrow Houses, Peer-Support, or in the NSM Day Program.

Administrative volunteer roles are critical to the organizational details and functions of NSM. We could always use some assistance in this area, and it may vary from time to time with project-based opportunities. Administrative tasks may include helping us writing grant proposals and other communications.

We operate a social enterprise called For the Sparrows, which was established to fill a gap we saw in employment opportunities for women exiting sexual exploitation. If you have any skills or desire to help grow a small business, helping sell our products, or with creative ideas, we would love to hear from you.

Our creative communications volunteer opportunities include roles for those with creative skills such as photography, videography, graphic design, etc. If you have a professional skill set that you would like to use to benefit NSM—reach out!

Throughout the year, we host a variety of events. At many of these events, we need help leading up to the event to do things such as procure and pick up auction items or event supplies. On the day of the event, we often need teams of volunteers to make it all run smoothly from set-up to tear-down.

We operate two second-stage houses in Calgary, and sometimes they require maintenance. We often need skilled laborers who can tackle facilities and maintenance problems such as small construction projects, landscaping, and more. Some of these projects are well suited for groups – like yard work!
