Next Step Ministries

A massive thank-you to EPIC Roofing & Exteriors for volunteering their time and talent in honour of our sparrows. They got the shingles donated and 8 wonderful men volunteered their Saturday morning to roof the house! They were incredible going above and beyond in everything that they did. This is EPIC Roofing #StandingUpForHer.

  • Ride for Refuge. Together we raised 81% of our $40,000 goal! Than you to everyone who participated. A MASSIVE shout out to our 4th Musketeer team!
  • Two incredible career days. In September the women were able to meet hairstylist Krystal Rose from Urban Texture Hair Studio, as well as esthetician and photographer Sammi Stibbard. In October the women toured the Calgary Fire Department recruitment centre!
  • Big Hill Springs hike. The women had a blast and it was a great bonding opportunity.
  • The Engage Conference Brentview Baptist Church
  • Pop up at Harvest Hills.
  • Received 'welcome backpacks' from Glamorgan church. Thank you to the church ladies group for the backpacks filled with hygiene items and goodies to welcome each of our participants.
  • Beckys trip to Newfoundland. This provided an opportunity to show how women can rise up and support each other and how God will provide. Quick private fundraising efforts were effective to send a support person and advocate (Becky) with an NSM participant to the Maritimes.
The work we do is heart work here at NSM, we do see incredible victories but with that times of deep heartbreak.  This past month a young woman stayed with us for a few short weeks. Her mental and emotional health was precarious as this young woman was coming from a situation of unimaginable trauma and pain.  During her time at NSM staff and volunteers were able to surround her with support, love and advocate for her in many different situations despite the choices she was making around her own safety and health.  She only stayed with us for a short time but she made a lasting impression on all of us.  It is so hard to watch at times as people make choices that do not lead to the life they want but the reality is also that often there is no foundation to begin dreaming of a life that is different from the one they know.  No matter how long a participant stays with us here at NSM we want her to know that she is loved and valued, she is loved by God and she has a choice.
