January 2023 at Next Step Ministries

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you for supporting Next Step Ministries over the years! Thanks to you, our donors, partners, volunteers, and friends, we are now in our 13th year of helping women impacted by sexual exploitation restore their lives.

5 Ways to Make an Impact on Human Trafficking Awareness Day

1. Learn about Human Trafficking

Learning more and growing in your understanding of the dynamics of sexual exploitation and human trafficking is the first step towards advocating to end it. We have put together educational resources on our website for people to get educated. Learn more.

2. Listen to Survivors

NSM created a series called "Her Voice," a compilation of letters written by survivors of sexual exploitation who desire to use their voices to take a stand. Take a glimpse into a survivor's journey of fighting against the voices of shame, judgement, guilt, and oppression. Listen here.

3. Use Your Voice

Take the next step after educating yourself, start to advocate! Share a podcast or a book with one of your friends. Start a conversation at your workplace by sharing something you learned. Reshare one of our educational posts on social media. You can make an impact!

4. Shop Products made by Survivors

Use your power as a consumer to combat sex trafficking and exploitation. Empower survivors through providing meaningful employment and workplace experience by shopping For the Sparrows. Shop here.

5. Donate to Support Survivors

NSM programs support women impacted by sexual exploitation at every step. The women we serve are on a lifelong journey of healing and recovery. Donating provides NSM with resources to help meet the needs of these courageous women throughout their journey. Donate here.

"I stand taller these days! Having the opportunity to work and to contribute to the decision-making process of this work gives me a reason to get up and get going each day."

- Survivor & FTS Employee Quote

Creating a screen-printing social enterprise where we could employ NSM participants was a dream we had in March 2019, and it is incredible seing it come to life where we have employed over 11 women! Learn more about how screen-printing is empowering survivors here.

Next Step Ministries honours and acknowledges the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations), as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III. Next Step Ministries is situated on land adjacent to where the Bow River meets the Elbow River, and that the traditional Blackfoot name of this place is Moh’kins’tsis, which we now call the City of Calgary.
